This week's toon on Boehner Standing Up to Extreme Right

After enduring years of partisan policy obstructionism culminating in a government shutdown by tantrum-throwing Tea Partiers, Speaker of the House John Boehner finally lashed out against the extreme right wing of his own party, labeling them "ridiculous," and accusing them of misleading their followers. For me, it brought to mind the image of Jacob Marley, warning a wayward Ebenezer Scrooge of his folly. The Ghost of Boehner Past, wearing the chains he had "forged in office," warns the Republican Party's tea-sipping elephant to take heed of its direction.
