David Lamb was a war correspondent. He managed to survive the battles that he'd covered for the Los Angeles Times over the years. Dave died yesterday after a long bout with cancer.
He was my friend.
I had just returned from the Journalists Memorial ceremony when I heard the news. So, I felt it appropriate to include this story as an apt companion piece to the Journalists Memorial Rededication feature. The following 2002 article (reprinted from the Yale Daily Press) stresses the dangers regularly facing war reporters.
